Description

Supervisor fully fill in the role in preparing and serving of meals. Ensure the food preparation areas and dining room are clean and hygienic, all food items are stored safely, and all food handling techniques are followed.

Hours: 

  • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, 7:00 am- 3:30 pm (30’ unpaid break)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meal Program Operations:
    • Ensure uninterrupted Meal Program services.
    • Assist the Meal Program Supervisor with food preparation on specified days.
    • Serve lunch to clients and maintain cleanliness during and after serving.
  • Kitchen Maintenance:
    • Clean and sanitize serving counters, tables, and chairs in the dining hall.
    • Wash dishes after lunch.
    • Organize and maintain the Soup & Kitchen area.
    • Sort and discard food donations appropriately.
  • Food Storage Management:
    • Organize food in fridges and freezer, paying attention to expiration dates.
    • Break down boxes, handle recycling, and rotate meat in freezers.
  • Logistical Support:
    • Assist the truck driver with unloading, including heavy lifting.
    • May help maintain client files and statistical records.
  • Volunteer Coordination:
    • Direct the work of volunteers assisting in the Meal Program.
  • Professional Representation:
    • Represent The Salvation Army professionally by presenting a clean appearance.
    • Demonstrate empathy and concern for clients, families, and volunteers.
    • Maintain courteous and professional interactions with donors, the public, and colleagues.
  • Administrative Responsibilities:
    • Complete a daily time sheet and submit it to the supervisor at the end of the pay period.
    • Perform other assigned duties, including multitasking and flexibility for special events.

Working Conditions:

  • Normal hours of work are between 7:00 am to 3:30 pm (30 minutes unpaid break) Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday.
  • The incumbent works in generally agreeable conditions, with the following exceptions:
    • Angry people
    • Verbal abuse
  • The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury, or illness due to:
    • Exposure to infectious diseases
    • Environmental Conditions
  • The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):
    • Universal Precautions
    • Annual WHMIS training/certification
    • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma; successful completion of a recognized certificate in cooking and/or meal prep a strong asset
  • Valid Food Safe certificate

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements: 

  • A minimum of two years of general related experience.
    • An alternative combination of education and experience might be considered.

  • Effective organizational and time management skills – self-motivated and disciplined self-starter.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
