Description

To give oversight and support to the everyday operations of the Maxwell Meighen Centre’s shelter programs, to build relationships with residents, and to positively contribute to the Intake team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise and provide day-to-day direction to the Hostel/Residential Supervisors in accordance with established policies.

  • Schedules, conducts, and documents supervision using the PEAC format.
  • Conducts probationary and annual performance reviews and evaluations.
  • Chairs and minutes regular team meetings.
  • Provide back-up support to these positions and their functions as required.

Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Hostel.

  • Ensure clients receive proper Customer Service while relating to the Staff.
  • Provide direct consultation, referral, and supportive case management to clients.
  • Review all Incident Reports, making any follow-up and put necessary notations on client’s file as needed.
  • Assist with monitoring the disciplinary/penalty assessments imposed on clients.
  • Read daily the logbooks and make the necessary follow-up.
  • Liaise with hospitals and other community service agencies to coordinate discharges to the shelter.

To assist the Director with Community Engagement

  • Participate in the development, planning and coordination of all programming activities and special events in conjunction with the Director.
  • To assist the Director with Community and City complaints.
  • Provide back-up support and make decisions in the absence of the Director.

To assist the Director with Human Relations of the Hostel

  • Assist with staff recruitment, selection and onboarding.
  • Recommends disciplinary actions including termination in concert with the Director.
  • Organize and assist with staff training in accordance with the policy.
  • Manage time off, lieu time and schedule requests (UltiPro).
  • Participates in Labour Management meetings.
  • Perform other duties as required.

MANAGERIAL/Technical RESPONSIBILITY:

To assist the Director with the administration of the Shelter

  • Compile all monthly Shelter statistics for submission to the Director.
  • Assist the Director in ensuring the Shelter complies and meets the standards for the Quality Assurance and Accreditation.
  • Attends committee, conferences and agency meetings as directed by the Director.
  • Schedules and chairs meetings, prepares agendas, takes and circulates minutes for the shelter as directed by the Director.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of shelter Policies and Procedures.
  • Assists with planning and facilitation of staff outings and events as requested.
  • Conduct tours of building for groups or individuals as requested.
  • On call duties.
  • Assists with residents’ meetings.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

To assist with the Director with the Finances of the Hostel

  • Approve daily for bi-weekly payroll in UltiPro for the Hostel/Residential Supervisors, Intake Workers and Dining Room Attendants.
  • Assist with the preparation of yearly budgets for all funding bodies and funding applications as requested.
  • Assist with the monitoring of financial expenditures as per annual budget projections.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week.
  • Work is performed in an emergency housing facility, subject to high client levels of stress and crisis intervention will be required.
  • There will be exposure to dirt, bodily fluids, bodily waste; drugs and alcohol, noise, dealing with angry and abusive people, verbal abuse, and odours.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 2-year Diploma in Human Services or equivalent.
  • Certificate in First Aid/CPR, Crisis Intervention and CPI.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum five years of significant work-related experience including supervision, coaching, and mentoring of employees.
  • Experience with extremely marginalized homeless people with mental health problems, addictions, concurrent disorders, and familiarity to a wide variety of resources in the Greater Toronto area.

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • High level of comfort working within an extreme diverse and multicultural environment.
  • Superior written skills and a high level of proficiency with the Internet and Microsoft Office 365.
  • The responsibilities associated with this position demand a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
