Applicant will provide oversight to “The Pantry” program while also providing support to all other aspects of the Foodbank including - FoodBank and Food Warehouse programs.

Hours:   

  • Full Time 40 hours /week (8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday) The hours will be varied for vacation relief when needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Food Bank Coordinator, help supervise the Pantry program. Including but not limited to:

  • Work with Mesh worker to organize sorted food; deciding on which food will go to morning pantry, and afternoon pantry; Set aside food that is to go to kitchen or shelter or foodbank.
  • Manage food supply by setting daily amounts and communicating this to that day’s volunteer team.
  • Follow Pantry procedures and ensure volunteer team knows about and also follows these procedures.
  • Help at start of each shift (morning, afternoon) to organize volunteers and set up pantry for food distribution. Be available to answer questions or handle conflict from volunteers.
  • Provide direction to volunteers in the Pantry.
  • Be available to respond to client questions or conflict.
  • May need to fill in as pantry worker if volunteers call in sick or otherwise unavailable.

Applicant will also provide general support to the operations of the Foodbank and Food Warehouse, including but not limited to:

  • General Warehousing services, for all three warehouses, including the receiving of all donations/supplies in cooperation with Food Bank Coordinator, organizing/sorting, storage and distribution of product.
  • Must be able to use forklift, reach truck, electric and manual pallet jacks.
  • May fill in for truck driver when regular driver is ill or on vacation.

Basic Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Willingness to accept and support The Mission Statement of The Salvation Army.
  • Awareness and compliance with CHWK Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintain BC Food Safe standards and training.
  • Maintain in good standing a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Ensures the safety and security of the vehicles and goods while in his/her care.
  • Performs Pre-trip inspections of vehicles.
  • Maintains vehicle logs and required records. Reports safety concerns and major repairs to supervisor.
  • Obtains receipts for gasoline expenditures and submits them for payment.
  • Is knowledgeable with regards to company policies as well as other Regulations such as Provincial & Municipal highway traffic acts.
  • Promptly reports to the supervisor all accidents involving the vehicles, personal injury and/or other damage.
  • Disposes of garbage and is sensitive to recycling.
  • Provides other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications and Education requirements:

  • Completion of High School
  • Ability to pass Police Security Clearance Certificate
  • Trained in BC Food Safe
  • Working knowledge of universal precautions and communicable diseases.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and clean drivers abstract
  • Ability to function with flexibility and interruptions.
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills
  • Forklift license or certificate an asset

The employee will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

  1. Dealing with angry people
  2. Verbally abusive people
  3. Frequent interruptions and multitasking
  4. Temperature variations (ie front door opening and closing)
  5. Equipment and general office noise

The employee may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to:

  1. Physical attacks by others
  2. Exposure to infectious diseases
  3. Exposure to toxic chemicals

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
