Loading Dock Worker
Description
The Loading Dock Worker assists with the efficient and effective reclamation, processing, and distribution of goods under the direction of Shipping & Receiving Supervisor. The incumbent may give logistical support to The Salvation Army Family Services offices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides customers and donors with courteous and diplomatic service
- Maintains knowledge of legislative and company policies such as Health & Safety Regulations
- Loads and unloads goods at the warehouse, destinations, and other storage facilities
- Ensures overall compliance with all safety procedures by implementing and monitoring Health & Safety policies and procedures
- Monitor participant’s progress and work ethic for the Volunteer Work Experience Program (VWEP). Teach VWEP participants in Loading Dock responsibilities
- Organize donations
- Monitor garbage area and lane way
- Performs other duties as assigned
Part time – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from 6am – 2pm with 30 min unpaid break, 22.5 hours per week
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- The successful job applicant will have completed High School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months
- Current certification in First Aid/CPR (or willing to be trained)
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Willingness to adhere to the Mission and values of the Harbour Light Corrections Department and of The Salvation Army
- Ability to work with individuals with a diverse background
- Forklift license preferred or willing to obtain one
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively with a non-judgemental attitude, as well as possess and exercise good interpersonal relationship skills by displaying tact, courtesy and patience with residents, staff, visitors and volunteers
- Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills, effective listening skills, and organizational skills
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and document creation
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and a variety of demands in a fast-paced environment
- Flexible, self-motivated, adaptable
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Criminal Record Review Program clearance
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
