Description

The kitchen helper assist the food services coordinator in preparing the meals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in preparing meals, including dietary meals as directed by the food services coordinator.
  • Follows work practices to ensure the efficient delivery of food services.
  • Follows policy on the use of donated foods.
  • May place order for food supplies, in coordination with the food services coordinator.
  • Organizes the work of food services in the absence of the food services coordinator.
  • Cleans the kitchen and kitchen equipment.
  • Keeps simple records and completes incident reports as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications

  • The successful job applicant will have completed High School (plus recommended cooking course).

Experience

  • Up to 3 months of prior related experience, including (up to 3 months of) institutional kitchen experience or equivalent.

The performance of the job requires, frequently preparing of foods, reading recipes, adhering to safety procedures and regulations and occasionally ordering supplies

Experience working with and (at times) giving direction to volunteers.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check
  • Completion of our online Praesidium Abuse Training and required Health and Safety
  • Completion of Fit4Mission training.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

Understanding of safe handling and use of kitchen equipment, understanding of possible hazards within kitchen, awareness of appropriate of need to follow universal precautions in the kitchen, cash handling experience (may be authorized to spend, disburse or collect small amounts of cash)
