Description
The Cook prepares and serves nutritious meals as outlined on menus in accordance with applicable food services and safety regulations.
- Terms: Regular, Part-time (24 hours/week)
- Days and Time: Monday (6:00 am-2:30 pm), Friday & Saturday (10:30 am – 7:00 pm)
- Number of Vacancies: 1
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with Food Services Coordinator and follows the meal plan and recipes laid out for food preparation
- Prepares meals; may prepare for special dietary needs of the residents
- Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services
- Makes good use of and decides on best use of resources, including donations to minimize waste
- Follows guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitors practices to ensure adherence
- May supervises students, volunteers and/or guests
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- The successful job applicant will have completed High School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months or relevant certifications.
- Food Safe Certification up to date
- Possess valid First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certificate or obtain prior to the end of probationary period.
Experience:
- One to three years of prior related experience, with at least one year of institutional cooking experience.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Ability to lift more than 20 lbs.
Other conditions / requirements:
- Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Record Check under the Criminal Records Review Program
- Successful obtainment of clearance through The Salvation Army Child Abuse Registry
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
