Description

The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Kingston Citadel Community and Family Services Toy Drive Campaigns during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accountabilities:

Toy Drive

  • Complete online applications with clients as required
  • Answer telephone, manage and/or redirect calls as appropriate
  • Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys for the Christmas Toy Drive and assist with preparing donated items for distribution
  • Assist with the recruiting, supervising and training of volunteers who assist with the Santa Shuffle or Toy Drive
  • Attend and set up/take down of seasonal toy drive events including the Santa Claus Parade, Teddy Bear Toss, Cat Centre etc.
  • Assist with or arrange pick-ups of donations from community donors
  • Assist with set up and take down of toy distribution centre
  • Help with sorting toy donations when required
  • Record statistical data in a clear, organized and accurate manner
  • Attend and complete meeting minutes
  • Perform other position related duties as required
  • Provide input to final campaign report, to include recommendations

 Santa Shuffle

  • Solicit donations to be used as prize draws for participants, snack and refreshments for volunteers and participants of Santa Shuffle and Toy Drive
  • Solicit donations for goodie bags
  • Pick up registrations from Running Room
  • Recruit volunteers for registration, race marshals, refreshments and to assist in packing goodie bags

Perform other position related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a Seasonal Full-time position based on up to 44 hours per week.
  • Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required as hours may increase as per the Christmas Kettle Campaign operational requirements.
  • Ability to lift/move 20 lbs. (11.34kg) in a safe manner
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
  • Local travel is associated with this position

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of high school
  • Related experience is an asset

 Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset
  • Strong skills in all Microsoft Office products and good working knowledge and experience with email and internet-based programs
  • Knowledge and experience in fundraising and event planning
  • Sound knowledge of and ability to utilize social media, website and blogging strategies
  • Ability to maintain and upgrade website as required
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required

  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
