An Introduction to Faith With Alpha
A successful Alpha program had such a transformational impact at The Salvation Army Leamington Community Church last fall, that Majors Ron and Judi Wickens plan on holding it again.
Each week, 25-30 people from all faiths attended the Alpha sessions, an introduction to faith in an open, informal and honest environment to explore and discuss life’s big questions together.
Each session explores a different question people have about faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha creates a space where people are excited to bring their friends and family for conversation about life, faith and Jesus. The program includes a series of films shot all over the world exploring the basics of the Christian faith.
“We were shocked at the amount of people that came. We prayed for it and the response was an answer to prayer. It was so busy that we called it Thursday night church,” says Major Ron Wickens, Corps Officer at Leamington Community Church.
The Alpha sessions were so successful that it was followed by an interactive Bible study focused on the Book of Philippians, presented by Right Now Media, a video streaming library of Biblical resources. These interactive sessions, which ran last January, included dinner, the streamed video lesson and a bible study discussion.
“We were just thrilled with the response to Alpha and that’s why we thought, well if that’s working, let’s complement it with the interactive Bible study,” Major Ron says.
Because of the support and demand, plans are in the works to run it again this September, followed by another Alpha session in January of 2024. To learn more about Alpha or the interactive Bible study program, Leamington Community Church can be reached at 519-326-4901.
