Reallocating Resources: Kenora Thrift Store Closing to Focus on Food Security

The Salvation Army Thrift Store at 133 Main Street South in Kenora, ON will be closing its doors on March 20,2026. This difficult decision follows careful consideration and review of the organization’s services and resource allocation.

“We are deeply grateful to the many supporters, volunteers and dedicated staff who have been part of our journey in Kenora,” says Stuart Walter, Community Ministries Director. “The Salvation Army has proudly serviced the community by offering quality used clothing and household items at affordable prices for local families and individuals to support sustainable shopping practices.”

Donations will no longer be accepted after March 2, 2026. Emergency clothing will still be available through the Salvation Army Community Ministries at 104 Matheson Street South. For further updates, please follow The Salvation Army Kenora on Facebook.

The Salvation Army remains committed to delivering essential community programs. This includes expanding food bank hours, offering the Alpha program and the potential to develop more transformational programming in the future. With demand for these services at an all-time high, the organization continues to expand and adapt its support to meet the needs of the Kenora community.

Last year:

  • In 2025, 2,098 visits were made to The Salvation Army in Kenora for food. Demand for food assistance has steadily increased by 10% in each of the two previous years.
  • In addition, 200 hampers 400 toys and 3,000 lbs of food were distributed at Christmas.

The Salvation Army regularly assesses its operations in each community to ensure long-term sustainability. The closure of the thrift store will allow for a greater focus on programs and services experiencing increased demand due to ongoing economic challenges.
