The Salvation Army in London Adds Addiction Recovery Treatment Program

Lives will be transformed through an innovative partnership that will provide critical support for individuals seeking treatment and support for mental health and addiction challenges.

The Salvation Army’s London Centre of Hope will be the home of a new Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub, including 33 new beds, that will be led by CMHA Thames Valley Addiction & Mental Health Services (CMHA TVAMHS).

Salvation Army London Centre of Hope executive director Jon DeActis says the collaboration is a way to support people in London with the resources and care they need.

“The Salvation Army’s mantra is to provide hope and dignity for clients, which will be the same for individuals coming into the HART Hub. This program will give them hope for the future,” Jon says. “By integrating these life-changing services into our facility, we can continue that mission and deepen our transformative impact in the community.”

By integrating mental health, primary care, housing, and social services, the HART Hub, which has 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week staffing, aims to reduce gaps in care and enhance support in London.

“We are excited to bring the HART Hub to The Salvation Army London Centre of Hope,” says Dean Astolfi, vice-president of Supportive Housing and Program Development at CMHA TVAMHS. “This facility is a natural choice. It meets the immediate needs of individuals seeking stability and treatment while allowing for connection to a continuum of services to prepare them for the next step in their journey.”

Astolfi says the HART Hub allows people to receive wraparound support in our community rather than having to search out different services at separate locations.

“We will be able to offer crisis support, basic needs, primary care, counselling, and many more wellness options to individuals who enter the Hub. The goal of the HART Hub is to prepare people for long-term stable housing and reduce stress on shelter systems and emergency care,” he explains.

This collaboration reflects the Centre of Hope’s commitment to addressing the root causes of homelessness and addiction. The Centre of Hope already provides a life-changing range of services, including an emergency shelter, warm meals, recovery support, and withdrawal management programs for the community.
