As the need in North Bay grows, the launch of The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign comes at a critical time, as economic challenges posed by ongoing and rising prices have led to the dramatic increase of individuals and families seeking support.

“As food affordability continues to be out of reach for many, we are seeing an increase in individuals and families coming to our food bank and school lunch programs for the first time. We also anticipate a higher number of individuals requesting Christmas food hampers this year,” Major Stephanie Watkinson, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army North Bay Ministries.

To help launch the iconic Christmas Kettle Campaign, several special guests were in attendance, including Federal Member of Parliament Anthony Rota, Nipissing-Timiskaming, the Honourable Victor Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, the Honourable Vijay Thanigasalam, Associate Minister of Transportation and North Bay Mayor Peter Chirico.

The 2023 fundraising goal is $225,000, and all donations will remain local so The Salvation Army North Bay Ministries can deliver life-changing programs and services to individuals and families struggling to make ends meet. The Christmas Kettle Campaign funds food assistance, school lunch programs, summer camps, Christmas food hampers and other services through the Beyond Basic Needs program.

This year, The Salvation Army in North Bay has helped more than 3,600 individuals access food and more than 7,900 lunches have been given to hungry children during the school lunch program and three schools, and 20 kids were sent to summer to camp.

“We are truly grateful for the generosity here in the community. The continued support will help so many individuals and families year-round,” says Major Watkinson. “Through our services we are able to locally provide hope and dignity to the residents of North Bay and surrounding area.”
