Ciena Gives Back to The Salvation Army Through Volunteerism

A small and committed team from the Ottawa location of Ciena, a networking systems and services company, recently volunteered their time at The Salvation Army Bethany Hope Centre in support of families in need.

As part of the ‘Go Do Good’ movement, seven Ciena employees cut and prepared vegetables to be used in meals served to BHC clients and families. Bethany Hope Centre assists pregnant youth and young parent families with food support and a range of parenting programs and services.

“These healthy meals will be enjoyed by families three days a week. Providing nutritious meals in our community is very important to the Bethany Hope Centre,” says BHC Resource and Development Coordinator Stacey Alexander.

With the company’s blessing, Ciena employees have volunteered at BHC for several years, giving back to the community in support of anyone in need of assistance. This year, as well as chopping vegetables, Ciena staff also made meat sauce and baked apple crisp for an upcoming Thanksgiving feast at the centre.

“With the high cost of living it has not been an easy year for young families and meals are an important part of a healthy lifestyle for parents and children. We’re not just filling tummies, we are looking to create a healthy community,” Stacey says.

“A huge thank you to Ciena for your support of Bethany Hope Centre and the commitment to the community.”
