The Salvation Army London Citadel Adventure Club Keeps Seniors Active
This fall, Sally’s Senior Adventure Club makes its return at The Salvation Army London Citadel. The program runs for six weeks, beginning this October.
Nicole Pelcz, the program’s coordinator, is excited to bring back this initiative after a successful spring 2023 session. The club is specifically designed for seniors aged 55 and older, aiming to keep them active and engaged in the community.
“We have a substantial senior population at our church, and we came up with the idea of blending a craft program with adventure to encourage seniors to stay active,” Nicole says.
During each session, the first half is dedicated to crafting, followed by a shared lunch. In the afternoon, participants engage in enjoyable, low-impact physical activities such as shuffleboard, balloon volleyball, line dancing, nature walks and scavenger hunts.
By calling it a club, the organizers aim to foster a sense of belonging among seniors, offering them the opportunity to create new friendships and build relationships.
Each club meeting will consist of a different adventure to bring recreational exercise opportunities to seniors. To support this or other health lifestyle programs at London Community and Family Services, please visit www.salvationarmy.ca/donations.
