The Salvation Army in Huntsville and Kiwanis Club of Muskoka Host Food Fundraiser to Support Community
The Salvation Army in Huntsville and the Kiwanis Club of Muskoka held a Christmas in July food fundraiser and collected about 2,000 pounds of food and raised $3,200 for The Salvation Army food bank.
“This couldn’t have come at a better time. The need for food continues to increase and without school lunch programs in the summer parents are relying on the food bank to feed their families,” said Krystal Fuller, Community Ministries Coordinator at The Salvation Army in Huntsville.
The fundraiser was held over two days on July 26th and 27th at the Huntsville Metro Store and Bullocks Independent Grocer.
Volunteers handed out a sheet of paper to shoppers with a list of what was most needed at the food bank, including hygiene items such as toothpaste, toilet paper and feminine hygiene products.
Santa stickers were also put next to grocery items in the stores to help shoppers find things that were needed at the food bank.
Kiwanis had about 10 or 15 volunteers and The Salvation Army had about 10 people helping out. Volunteers were helping to weigh, check and sort food while others were putting food on the shelves as it was being distributed to those in need right away.
“Our volunteers did an incredible job and we are so grateful for them,” said Krystal. “We are so thankful to this very generous community for supporting our food bank again this year and giving whatever extra they had to help those in need. Their support makes such a difference for people in this community.”
