Salvation Army Care Kits Supporting Community in Listowel
Care Kits funded by The Salvation Army in Listowel are being handed out to anyone in need, in partnership with the North Perth County Homelessness Taskforce and North Perth Ontario Provincial Police.
North Perth’s Homelessness Taskforce, which includes The Salvation Army in Listowel, created the Care Kit to provide information and resources available in North Perth. The kits are distributed by North Perth O.P.P. officers and contain maps, information pamphlets, snacks, beverages, and sunscreen for people passing through the area.
“We are so grateful for a community that truly cares. These bags are an example of our caring in action, as we work together to support those in need ” says Gwyneth Woods, Community and Family Services Director for The Salvation Army in Listowel.
Twenty Care Kits made by The Salvation Army provide someone in need with local resources that guide them to available and welcoming community support agencies, including The Salvation Army. More kits can be made if the current supply is handed out by the O.P.P.
The North Perth Homelessness Taskforce consists of The Salvation Army – Listowel, City of Stratford Social Services, Listowel Wingham Hospital Alliance, North Perth O.P.P. Detachment, and the Municipality of North Perth. The Taskforce’s target is to bring attention to the needs of those in North Perth and address the vulnerable situations faced by individuals living in the community.
“It is a collaborative approach, where each organization is aware of what the other is doing, how they’re operating, and how we can serve people better together. The key piece is that we’re all working as a team,” Gwyneth says.
The Taskforce is committed to improving the quality of life for people in North Perth while working with partner agencies to address homelessness. Creating the Care Kit is one of many steps towards helping those in need and The Salvation Army in Listowel is proud to be a part of this innovative partnership to provide hope where there is hardship.
