Wheels for Meals fundraiser a huge success; will help struggling individuals and families

A better Christmas and 2022 is on the way for individuals and families in need in Orangeville and several other cities across Ontario.

The Tire Discounter Group hosted their second annual Wheels for Meals and More fundraiser and this year the Orangeville-based business raised $81,000 that will go directly to several Salvation Army locations in Ontario to help with programs and services. The tire distributor donated $1 from every tire sold from Dec. 1-14 to The Salvation Army, and the company’s tire manufacturing partners matched the funds to nearly double the $47,000 donated last year.

The Salvation Army New Hope Community Church in Orangeville will put their nearly $40 000 donation to good use in the coming year and are destined for a range of essential services and programs, says Roger Barrow, Corps Officer at New Hope Community Church.

Tire Discounter Group has six locations across Ontario and funds raised in each city remains in community to help those in need. Salvation Army Church locations in the following cities will receive funds from the Wheels for Meals and More campaign:

  • Orangeville – $39,700
  • Toronto – $25 700
  • Ottawa $5 800
  • Barrie – $5 100
  • London – $1 900
  • Oakville – $2 800

Frank Brundle, owner of Tire Discounter Group, said the idea to support The Salvation Army originated with Bruce Lush, the company’s chief financial officer. Brundle hopes the donations makes a positive difference in the lives of the people it supports.

“This was a wonderful idea and as a local company we mobilized very quickly because we believe in community partnerships,” said Brundle. “The Salvation Army does tremendous work in Orangeville and across the province and we wanted to give back and help individuals and families during the holidays and year-round.”

The Salvation Army Kettle Campaign runs until Dec. 24 at retailers and shopping malls across Ontario. Donations can also be made online at www.salvationarmy.ca or by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
