For the price of a coffee and doughnut you can provide a healthy and nutritious meal for a person in need in Barrie.

The Salvation Army Barrie Bayside Mission Centre’s Buy a Meal for $5 campaign runs the month of October to meet the increased demand for the community meals program in the city.

As of September 30, staff and volunteers at the Barrie Bayside Mission Centre have prepared and served more than 121,000 meals, nearly meeting the need for all of 2020, which saw more than 122,000 meals prepared.

For the first nine months of this year, the 121,000 meals served is an increase of 36,404 compared to the first nine months of 2020.

“This campaign will allow us to prepare a healthy and delicious meal that will increase our level of care to those we assist,” said Major Stephanie Watkinson, Executive Director of the Barrie Bayside Mission Centre.

“Food insecurity has steadily increased in Barrie due to the city having the third highest monthly rent in Canada, and this campaign will help many individuals and families in the area who are struggling.”

Donations can be dropped off at the BBMC office at 16 Bayfield Street or made online at https://donate.salvationarmy.ca/page/62126/donate/1

Major Stephanie said there has already been a tremendous response to the Buy a Meal campaign in the community.
