Rogers Family Donation Helps The Salvation Army East Toronto Citadel Purchase Critical Program Equipment
The Salvation Army East Toronto Citadel is supporting hundreds of vulnerable people through their hot meal program because of the generous donation totaling $17,000 by the Rogers Family.
Salvation Army Captain Stefan Van Schaick said the funding was a great help because it provided a purchase of an essential new stove to replace their current one which is in disrepair.
“To some, it may be just be a stove. To us and our vulnerable community members who rely on our meal program, this stove is a lifeline because it provides them with hot meals they desperately need. They don’t have many options to get food,” said Captain Van Schiack. “We are very thankful for the Rogers Family donation because it is brining hope to everyone who relies on our services.”
The new stove has provided The Salvation Army in East Toronto the capacity to feed 100 people a week. Some of the generous funding has also been used to purchase food for their take-out service due to COVID-19 safety protocols.
The Salvation Army is also in the process of purchasing a new freezer and fridge to support the program.
“While COVID-19 has brought financial struggles for many people in our community, there are some who will continue to experience these struggles beyond the pandemic,” said Captain Van Schiack. “With the help of the Rogers Family, we can continue to ensure people are well cared for and provide a warm meal to those in need. We are so grateful for the support.”
