Rogers Family Donation Helps Bring School Supplies, Breakfast to Low- Income Families in Chatham-Kent
Thanks to a generous donation of $46,000 from the Rogers Family, The Salvation Army in Chatham-Kent is supporting youth with additional school supplies and much needed breakfast so they can continue to be successful in class.
Salvation Army Community and Family Services Manager Allie Matthews says the funding allowed them to purchase 610 backpacks for children, as well as essential school supplies. Staff also purchased four tablets and four sets of headphones for at-risk-youth pursuing post-secondary education.
Funding from the Rogers Family also helped supply food for The Salvation Army’s breakfast program for local school children. The children stop in on their way to school and collect their breakfast which provides them with the nourishment they need to stay focused during class.
The funding has helped serve 117 children with breakfast from the Chatham-Kent region.
“For many low-income families, it can be hard to provide the necessities for school like a backpack with supplies and school snacks,” said Salvation Army Captain Stephen Holland. “This year the Rogers Family funding made such a difference. With their help we were able to show that people care. I want to thank the Rogers Family for helping us give hope today to those in need in our community.”
