Rogers Family Donation Boosts The Salvation Army York Community Church’s Local Impact

With an increased demand this year amidst the COVID-19 pandemic for warm winter clothing and food, families and individuals in need were able to receive much needed support thanks to the Rogers Family donation to The Salvation Army York Community Church.  The donation of $40,800 was allocated to assisting people with clothing, food, practical support, and more.

“We were so grateful to receive the funds from the Rogers Family, it really helped us to serve our community in extremely impactful ways,” said Major Donna Senter, Corps Officer. “We have been able to reach out to a greater number of new Canadians, who at times, are unaware as to where to access resources. We’ve been able to provide additional support, particularly with winter clothing which has always been a challenge. We’re so thankful for this generosity and support.”

With a successful initiative to help more people in need, this donation assisted 120 people with warm winter clothing, and 700 people were served through food services, totaling 820 beneficiaries. The funding has been instrumental in complementing York Community Church’s food supplier, The Railside, which at times is short on providing a variety of food options. In addition, the church’s community children were able to receive healthy snacks and support, which has been so essential throughout the challenges posed by the pandemic lockdown.

“We were able to provide essential supports and hope to so many individuals and families in our area because of the Rogers’ Family kind donation,” said Corps Officer Senter. “We will continue to help our community members who are in need through our programs and services.”
