Hope Fills the Room in Victoria
The Salvation Army Victoria’s seventh annual Hope in the City luncheon brought together community, generosity and purpose to launch the holiday season. Held on November 17, 2025, the event welcomed advisory board members alongside local business and community leaders, with strong board support through table purchases and sponsorships.
Emceed by CHEK News anchor Paul Haysom, the afternoon featured keynote speakers Olympic gold medalist Adam Kreek and business leader Rebecca Sterritt. The couple shared personal stories of perseverance, grassroots fundraising and their efforts to protect a local natural space—delivering a powerful message about purpose and hope in action.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Hero for Hope award to Simeon Basil-John. His journey—from facing financial and health challenges to finding mentorship and purpose through Camp Sunrise—served as a moving reminder of the impact of The Salvation Army’s work.
The event also marked the official launch of the Christmas kettle campaign, led by Captain Laura Hickman, with advisory board member Nichola Wade making the first donation as guests rang bells in a moment of shared celebration.
The luncheon concluded with a leadership transition as Nichola Wade passed the committee chair role to incoming chair April Dorey Hartwig, whose experience and commitment will help grow the event’s impact in the years ahead.
