Families are Thriving, Thanks to You

Working as a small-scale farmer in Chambo, Malawi, Chrissie struggled to make ends meet. Every year, because of ongoing drought, soil degradation, and a lack of tools and resources, shecould only grow less than seven bags of maize on her three-and-half acre farm. It wasn’t enough to feed her six children, and she could only afford to send two of them to school. Chrissie found hope, however, when The Salvation Army invited her to participate in a nearby SustainableAgriculture and Food Security project.

Through your generous support, the project provided her with maize and cowpea seeds and fertilizer, as well as conservation agriculture training and the tools and knowledge to increase thesize of her crops. What she learned changed her life. Her next harvest produced 35 bags of maize, more than enough to feed her family. And selling what was left, she was able to send all her children to school.

“My hopes were gone, but now I can see my children smiling again,” Chrissie says.

Chrissie’s experience is one of many stories of hope and transformation created when individuals are given the tools, resources and education they need to impact their lives and future.
