COVID-19 FAQs

(Updated 12/21)

What is The Salvation Army doing about the COVID-19 pandemic?

The Salvation Army continues to follow all provincial and federal public health policies and guidelines as it relates to COVID-19. The Salvation Army is also monitoring for any changes to public health guidelines across Canada so that we can make the necessary updates to our policies and practices.

How are you protecting the clients you serve?

As of November 15, 2021, all Salvation Army staff providing on-site and in-person services will be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This policy is consistent with our values and obligations to protect the health and safety of all Salvation Army staff and the people we serve.

Do you have to be vaccinated to visit a Salvation Army thrift store?

Individuals visiting our thrift stores are not required to provide proof of vaccination; however, The Salvation Army’s stringent health and safety protocols remain in effect, including mask wearing, proper physical distancing, and enhanced sanitation practices. Our number one priority remains the health, safety and well-being of our employees, guests, donors, and communities.

Is The Salvation Army continuing to provide programs and services?

The Salvation Army remains fully committed to continuing to serve Canadians.  We are working hard to ensure continued service. In any instances where we may be experiencing service delays due to staffing shortages, we are working with local partners to ensure those in need in the community are still able to access essential services, such as food and shelter.

What is the long-term solution to The Salvation Army not allowing unvaccinated individuals work/volunteer for the organization?

The Salvation Army is monitoring for any changes to public health guidelines across Canada so that we can make the necessary updates to our policies and practices. In the meantime, proof of vaccination is required at Salvation Army facilities where provincially mandated and we continue to follow stringent health and safety protocols, including mask wearing, proper physical distancing, and enhanced sanitation practices, regardless of the province’s specific health and safety requirements. Our number one priority remains the health, safety, and well-being of our employees, clients, guests, donors, and communities.
