The Salvation Army New Westminster Citadel Transitions Food Bank to Regional Model

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JULY 16, 2026

NEW WESTMINSTER, BC: Effective July 14, 2026, The Salvation Army New Westminster Citadel has temporarily paused its food bank operations as it transitions to a new regional food services model in partnership with Cariboo Hill Temple and Harvest.

The food bank has served approximately 60 families per week and has been a valued part of the New Westminster community. This transition reflects The Salvation Army’s commitment to building a more sustainable and effective approach to food services across the Burnaby and New Westminster region.

“We are deeply grateful for every client, volunteer, and donor who has been part of this work,” said Captain Jenny Marin, Corps Officer at The Salvation Army New Westminster Citadel. “This is not the end of our commitment to this community. We are pausing so we can build something better, and we look forward to sharing more about what that looks like in the months ahead.”

Clients who relied on the New Westminster Citadel food bank are encouraged to access food support through other local food banks in New Westminster and the surrounding area. A full list is available at the Citadel. The Salvation Army also operates food banks at Surrey, Boundless Vancouver, Langley, and North Vancouver.

The Salvation Army New Westminster Citadel continues to serve the community through youth programs, the School Backpack Program, Christmas support, Seniors Programs, and more. A regional food services model is expected to launch in Fall 2026.

**Editor’s Note, July 16, 2026: A previous version of this release incorrectly listed Harvest (Burnaby) as an available food bank resource. Harvest Food Bank is closed for the summer. That reference has been removed. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.**
