Cultivating Memories and Values at Camp Sunrise
The Salvation Army’s Camp Sunrise, situated on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, is a magical place where children and teens find much more than just summer fun. From the moment they arrive at camp, they are welcomed into a friendly environment that fosters mental, physical, and spiritual development. Camp activities are developed to cater to campers of different ages during the summer months.
Led by Captains Joshua and Joyce Downer, a team of staff and volunteers are on hand to host activities throughout the different weeks, such as team-building exercises, leadership training, music lessons, confidence-building exercises, and the chance to discover lifelong friendships. While there, campers also get to enjoy delicious and nutritious meals provided by the camp.
For many children, a week at camp is a transformative experience that will equip them with new life skills.
“Some of the greatest memories in my life have been at camp. And so, it is a joy not only to continue to experience these memories for myself but also to be part of creating new memories for others. Camp Sunrise is a special place for so many and continues to be a reminder of God’s beautiful creation and his love for children.” – Josh Downer, Divisional Youth Secretary (BC).
Activities for everyone

In the afternoons, the focus turns to mental development. Singing, problem-solving challenges, or activities that helped to stimulate campers’ creativity and critical thinking. They learned to express their emotions in healthy ways, work as a team to solve problems, and value lifelong learning, all in an encouraging environment free from external pressures.

Camp Sunrise’s routine was carefully planned so each child and teen felt valued, challenged, and inspired. Each activity is designed to leave a positive mark, creating memories that campers will cherish forever. They return home with new friendships, stories to tell, and a sense of having experienced something truly special.
