Lisa and Dave Macpherson have both been with The Salvation Army for more than 20 years. Lisa, who has been with us her whole life and Dave, who became a Soldier in 1996, were ordained as Officers together in 2003.

Today they are both Area Commanders overlooking Ministry Units in different regions throughout British Columbia. Let’s get to know a little more about these familiar faces of the army

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Lisa: I didn’t really have a clear idea – I was anxious to finish high school and get to work!
Dave: The shortstop for the Detroit Tigers… that didn’t happen because I couldn’t hit the curveball …

What is your favourite thing about working for The Salvation Army?

Lisa: Being able to help people showing the hands of God to them, what that looks like Body, Mind, Spirit
Dave: Helping people as God would have us help – that’s what this is all about and is the prime purpose of our ministry.

What’s your hidden talent or little known fact?

Lisa: I Was Safety Bear when I worked with the RCMP
Dave: I am an internationally accomplished player of Strat-O-Matic baseball winning multiple championships over the last 45 years.

Favourite travel destination?

Lisa: Hawaii
Dave: There’s many, but I think the most beautiful drive may be the Nisga’a Highway between Terrace and Gitwinksihlkw. Just gorgeous.

If you could learn one new personal skill, what would it be?

Lisa: Learn to play a harp
Dave: I’d like to learn to play the piano

Lisa: I can’t pick one but I love Westerns
Dave: The Princess Bride
