Aces FORE Kate Booth House

For the last 34 years the ladies of Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club have changed thousands of lives by supporting and advocating for The Salvation Army Kate Booth House in Vancouver, B.C.

It all started in 1986 when vice-captain Donna Herb spearheaded an invitational golf tournament; this tournament quickly turned into an annual event, and together with other fundraising initiatives, they have proudly raised over $2 million to date for Kate Booth House.

Kate Booth House is a confidential, high security shelter providing a supportive environment for up to 25 women and children at a time, who are escaping violence and breaking the cycle of abuse. Program offerings include daily counselling and education on issues such as parenting, assertiveness, the battering cycle and the dynamics of abuse, along with information and assistance related to skills training and employment resources. A children’s program is also available with weekly groups, one on one counselling and activities.

Because of your efforts and kindness, women leave with new-found strength and courage, something they haven’t felt in many years. Hearing client testimonials about their life changing experience at Kate Booth House is bitter-sweet; knowing what they endured before reaching out for help. This touches the heart for many – this could be your sister, your friend, your neighbour, or even you …

“I arrived with a broken heart and l left with regained courage and dignity.”

Unfortunately, this year with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Shaughnessy women were forced to take their fundraising efforts off the golf course, however still determined to make their annual donation. With a silent auction, an appeal sent to their members, along with a generous donor offering matching funds they were able to raise close to $90,000 this year.

“We know the incredible work The Salvation Army does in the communities we live in and how responsible they are with donations.”

As their motto reads, Women Helping Women, Kelly is proud Shaughnessy ladies can continue their support of Kate Booth House. Donations from previous years have been designated to renovations at the shelter, making much needed updates to the family room, the nursery, and bedrooms, providing a home-like comfort for those escaping violence.

About Kate Booth House

At Kate Booth House, victims of violence can find a safe place for their children and themselves as they look to transition into their new lives. For up to 30 days our shelter provides a place to stay, food, personal care items, children’s toys, and all the necessities to bring comfort to victims. For those who require safe housing following their stay, there is a second stage program that provides furnished apartments at a confidential location for women and children for up to a year. Additionally, the program offers a 24-hour crisis line to help women and children regain their self-esteem and rebuild their lives.

Thank you to the ladies of Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club for Giving HOPE Today … and every day. Their incredible generosity and commitment to The Salvation Army for the last 34 years continues to help victims break free of abuse and violence.
