Christmas Message from The Salvation Army BC

An exasperated Charlie Brown once asked, “Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?”

It was a valid question in 1965 when “A Charlie Brown Christmas” was released and it still rings true today. What is Christmas all about?

For many people it is a busy time filled with running from shop to shop and preparing for family celebrations. There are gifts to buy, cards to write and songs to sing. It is a merry and joyful time of year. But for many, Christmas can be a time of worry rather than joy; stress rather than peace; poverty rather than prosperity and loneliness rather than fellowship.

Charlie Brown asked his rhetorical question from such a place. But his friend Linus gave him hope when he quoted Luke’s gospel, “And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.’ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.’”

That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.

The Salvation Army exists to bring hope where there seems to be no hope. With abundant joy we seek to provide practical assistance to all people. Not just at Christmas, but all through the year. Merry Christmas, and may God bless you.
