Fall is nearing and while some people (mostly parents) are excited for the back-to-school season it also signals the end of Summer and the summer camp programs for kids across the province. This year nearly 1,200 youth attended our camps, including a number of at-risk youth from areas such as Port Alberni who sent 26 campers to Camp Sunrise this year, a huge increase from previous years.

“I was so nervous to leave home for the first time, but my camp leader made me feel so welcome.”

At Camp Sunrise in Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast campers celebrated ‘Christmas in August’ at the performing arts camp, complete with a visit from Santa who gave out stockings to everyone and joined in on the fun at Santa’s Village Dance Party. In Northern B.C. at Camp Mountainview campers enjoyed outdoor activities like swimming, canoeing, hiking, and rock climbing.

Salvation Army summer camps provide a great outlet for children and teenagers to get out and explore the outdoors in a safe environment where they may not otherwise have the opportunity, and the chance to meet others and make lifelong friends is immeasurable.

“It’s the best food I’ve ever eaten and I can’t wait to go back next summer”.
