The Salvation Army Caring Place to send 50+ kids to Camp Sunrise.

Summer time for most means long days, warm weather and ice cream. But for some in our community, their vulnerability knows no season. For many of Maple Ridge’s vulnerable youth, the carefree days of summer vacation equate to long, lonely days, while mom and dad are out at work. The Salvation Army Caring Place however, is able to help about 50 of these children each summer by sending them to a week at Camp Sunrise, The Salvation Army’s summer camp on the Sunshine Coast.

“Camp Sunrise offers an opportunity for kids who have little chance to enjoy a proper summer vacation, to experience a fun-filled week and leave the many stresses of poverty at home,” says Darrell Pilgrim, Executive Director of The Salvation Army Caring Place. “It gives them the chance to just be kids.”

The cost of sending a child to camp is approximately $315 per week. For families in-need, the Salvation Army has scholarship opportunities for children to apply for this week at camp. Camp applications are available through The Salvation Army Caring Place, starting immediately. For anyone wishing to apply for camp or to sponsor a child, please contact Connie McGonigal at 604-463-8296 x 112, or connie.mcgonigal@caringplace.ca.
