The Salvation Army’s 11th Annual Hope in the City Breakfast, held Wednesday, December 5th, 2012 at The Vancouver Convention Center, is deemed by many as the staple Christmas Season Opening Event by many supportive corporations and individuals. This important engagement marks the largest fundraising event for The Salvation Army inBritish Columbia. All monies raised support The Salvation Army work – directly funding Salvation Army social services, programs and resources.
This year, The Salvation Army welcomes Charlotte Jones Anderson as the featured keynote speaker. As one of the National Football League’s most innovative and versatile front office executives, Charlotte Jones Anderson’s 23 years of NFL experience with the Dallas Cowboys have enabled her to assume a position of leadership among women in American professional sports. A signature element ofAnderson’s service to the Cowboys has been her forthright approach to making a difference in the lives of others – and no where is that commitment more evident than the Thanksgiving Day halftime celebration that annually kicks off the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign. In May of 2010,Andersonwas named to the position of Chairman of The Salvation Army’s National Advisory Board – where she became the first woman in the history of the organization to hold that title.
The morning also welcomed critically acclaimed British Columbia tenor, Ken Lavigne and Dr. Peter Legge as the program’s emcee. Ken Lavigne performed his inspirational and moving song, Keep Holding On, while a video played showing stories of hope from Salvation Army clients.
The Hope in the City Breakfast has become a special Christmas tradition, whereby Vancouver’s business community join together to ring in the holiday season, raise funds and awareness while, celebrating the work of The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army appreciates the ongoing support demonstrated from a variety of local, caring corporations in Greater Vancouver. Through the care and financial assistance provided, The Salvation Army is better equipped to create significant and long-lasting improvements in local communities while providing essential services for those less fortunate.
