Just peachy!

The Fresh from the Farm program in Penticton, British Columbia is loading up with fresh fruit by engaging over 30 youth in the summer effort.  McCains and Food Banks Canada granted the Penticton Salvation Army $5,000 to cover the cost of gas, canning supplies, and food safe for all of the young participants of this program.

This unique experience is a collaboration between The Salvation Army Penticton and the First Baptist Church.

Most recently, the group traveled to Cawston, British Columbia where they were picked organic peaches at a local orchard courtesy of Mr. Paul Dhaliwal.  What was collected at days end was nearly 400 pounds of peaches!  Through all that hard work, the team then canned them in the community kitchen adding up to 85 quarts.

All those involved really enjoyed the day by learning about the various techniques involved in peach picking and to see the process all the way through from the orchard to the canning!

… Not to mention, enjoying some peach dessert after all was said and done!
