Thank You CKNW.

Thank you for the continual support offered by CKNW in supporting the work The Salvation does and those we help in our communities through the CKNW Orphans’ Fund.

A little about their long history and how they help …

Mission: The CKNW Orphans’ Fund are dedicated to enhancing the lives of children with physical, mental and social challenges living in BC Communities.

History of the CKNW Orphans’ Fund: The CKNW Orphans’ fund grew out of a commitment of a fledgling radio station to become a part of the community in which it was established.  Radio station CKNW signed on in September 1944, and at Christmas the following year, it seemed like a good idea to make the season a little brighter for the children residing in the Loyal Protestant Home in New Westminster. The Home housed parentless children, wards of the government and those whose families couldn’t care for them.  From those humble beginnings grew the CKNW Orphans’ fund. In 1949, the Fund was registered and incorporated.  When the fund started, the mandate was to help children in the orphanage – thus the name “orphans”. Today institutions like the Loyal Protestant Home have been phased out but the CKNW Orphans’ Fund continues its dedication to promoting the health and welfare of physically, mentally and socially challenged, as well as those children in B.C. who have been orphaned from society. Our commitment to working with children has not faltered in well over 60 years.

Children + Families:  CKNW Orphans’ Fund provides help for special needs children in BC. In the last 60 years, they have raised over $30 million dollars – helping more than 200,000 children throughout the province.  The children that we help may require extra medical, social, educational or environmental supports to enhance or improve their health, development, quality of life and community integration.

Thank you CKNW for the continual support in sending kids to camp and for everything in between.
