Iceberg Alley Riders Help Kick Off The Salvation Army Christmas Season in St. John’s

Santa Claus made an early appearance in St. John’s at the end of September to help kick off The Salvation Army’s Christmas season. Forgoing his traditional sleigh for a Polaris Slingshot, Santa was accompanied by over 15 motorcycles and supporting vehicles from the Iceberg Alley Riders Chapter NL-A as they collected toys and monetary donations along their route to Conception Bay South.

The Iceberg Alley Riders, comprised of former Gold Wing Road Rider members, have worked with The Salvation Army on this toy drive for over thirty years. This year, they dropped off more than sixty-three toys and cheques totaling over $1600.

“Supporting kids is a key piece of why we work with The Salvation Army on this fantastic cause,” shared Charles Cook, Iceberg Alley Riders Chapter NL-A Director. “This toy drive is just the start of our work to help everyone have a special Christmas.”

Outside of the Toy Drive, Charles and his riders take over a full day on a kettle each November and take time to stuff stockings at their annual Christmas Dinner to drop off at The Salvation Army.

“It is partnerships like this that help The Salvation Army do the work that we do, to make sure everyone has a Christmas to enjoy, with a toy under the tree and food on the table,” shared Major Steven Barret, Executive Director St. John’s Housing and Community Services. “We cannot thank Charles and his team enough for their continued support.”
