Advisory Board Celebrates Progress at New Vancouver Harbour Light

On August 11, members of The Salvation Army’s Greater Vancouver Advisory Board, including chair, Robert McFarlane, vice-chair, Daryl Dunn, and members Matthew Carter, Dave Cunningham and Kasey Reese, gathered alongside donors and staff for an exclusive look at the new building taking shape at 130 East Cordova Street in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

For the advisory board, the event was an opportunity to see first-hand the progress of a project they have helped champion and support, and to reflect on the vision and community investment behind the Nine Stories of Hope capital campaign. As the campaign nears its goal, members explored new spaces, including the women’s addictions treatment program and the Vancouver Harbour Light Café, seeing how years of planning, generosity and dedication have become a reality. These purpose-built spaces will provide people with access to the care, resources and support they need to move toward a brighter future.

The advisory board continues to play an essential role in helping advance the vision for the new Vancouver Harbour Light. Through their leadership, advocacy and commitment, members have helped build momentum for a project that will create new opportunities to serve individuals and families in the Downtown Eastside.

Standing inside the new building, advisory board members could see the impact of that collective effort taking shape around them. With the building moving closer to opening, the day offered a meaningful opportunity to celebrate how far Vancouver Harbour Light has come and look ahead to the lives that will be touched by this new chapter of service.
