You Gave Natalia Comfort Far From Home

When the war broke out in Ukraine, Natalia had to pack up suddenly and leave her native Kyiv with her grown daughter, granddaughter, two other children and their dog. There was no time to pack any luggage and no space in her tiny car, so everyone grabbed only the most basic essentials. Even worse, because men between 18 and 60 were not allowed to leave the country, her husband and son-in-law had to stay behind.

Unsure what would happen next, Natalia drove to Bulgaria, where she was welcomed by The Salvation Army—and the compassion of friends like you.

Through The Salvation Army, Natalia and her family immediately received essential food and hygiene items. They were also provided food vouchers, material assistance and encouragement through group programs. At the beginning of the school year, The Salvation Army even offers “back to school” items, including backpacks, stationery and other required school supplies.

Natalia’s daughter eventually returned to Ukraine to be with her husband, but Natalia is staying in Bulgaria while her husband serves in the military. Even though it’s hard to be away from him, Natalia knows The Salvation Army will be by her side until she returns home. “My soul is still in Ukraine,” she admits, “I am glad to be in safety and for the welcome and support I receive here, especially from The Salvation Army.”

For as long as they need, The Salvation Army is committed to staying by the side of individuals facing hardship.
