Tax-Deductible Year-End Gifts Make Twice the Impact for People In Need

As we conclude another year, Canada continues to see a rise in people struggling to meet basic needs. According to a recent Salvation Army survey, only 46 percent of respondents are optimistic about their finances over the next couple of years, while 22 percent are concerned about food security. In both cases, the numbers increased from the previous year.

“Families are facing impossible choices every day—between paying rent or buying groceries, purchasing medication or putting gas in the car. At The Salvation Army, we’re here to help shoulder those burdens and offer both practical support and hope,” says Lieut.-Colonel John Murray, territorial secretary for communications.

With an uncertain economic outlook, rising costs of living and increasing grocery prices, many families are being forced to make difficult decisions to survive.

“At The Salvation Army, we’re here to offer both practical support and hope.”

Many individuals seeking support have turned to The Salvation Army for food, clothing and practical assistance, with more than three million visits reported last year in Canada and Bermuda. Donors continue to play a crucial role in helping The Salvation Army provide essential services in 400 communities across Canada.

“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we not only provide immediate assistance but also help people rebuild lives with dignity,” Lieut.-Colonel Murray adds.

Your Donation Will Be Matched

This holiday season, your generous contributions can make a big difference.

Until Dec. 31, 2025, tax-deductible gifts will be matched to double the impact in support available to individuals accessing The Salvation Army’s services.

Benefits of a Year-End Donation

Any donation to The Salvation Army helps provide support to families and individuals in crisis. Helping fund food and shelter services, as well as mental and emergency support, can be life-changing for those trying to get back on their feet.

In addition, your generosity can bring dollars back into your pocket come tax season.

Ways to Donate

General Donations: Make an unrestricted donation to be used where the need is greatest or designate your gift for a specific program.

Gifts of Securities: By donating a stock, bond, or mutual fund directly to a charity, you avoid having to pay any capital gains taxes on its appreciated value. In addition to eliminating the capital gains tax, you will also receive a charitable tax receipt for the market value of the shares when received in the Army’s bank account.

Corporate Giving: Reduce your company’s tax liability, enhance company morale, and support vulnerable people across Canada when you give a corporate gift.

Make your year-end donation today and help provide essential support to families and individuals in need
