New Year – New Division

As of January 2024, the Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territory has amalgamated several divisions to meet the changing needs of society:

  • The Alberta and Northern Territories and Prairie divisions have merged to form the new Prairies and Northern Territories division.
  • The Bermuda, Newfoundland and Labrador, Maritime, and Quebec divisions have merged to form the new Atlantic Division.
  • British Columbia and Ontario remain separate divisions.

For the Prairies and Northern Territories, the Divisional Headquarters office will be located in Winnipeg, with a divisional office in Edmonton. Divisional Commander Lt. Col. Brian Armstong will be based out of the Winnipeg office, while the Divisional Secretary, Major Rob Kerr, second in command in the division, will be based in Edmonton.

The Canada and Bermuda territory now consists of four divisions instead of eight. The mergers intend to level the playing field so that each of the four divisions will have more balanced personnel, budgets and ministry units. These changes will position the Army to respond more effectively to external challenges and provide better stewardship of resources across all divisions. The mergers will help create a consistent divisional structure, processes, systems, and leadership. All Divisional Commanders will be members of the Territorial Management Board giving all divisions equal representation and ultimately a stronger voice in territorial decision making.

Many of the teams in the new divisions have been planning and actively working together for months to make the transition as smooth as possible. While there will be minor changes to websites and social media platforms, the services and supports offered by Salvation Army ministry units will not be affected. We look forward to serving the communities we live and work in under the new divisional name.
