Salvation Army’s Backpack Drive Equips Huron County Students
School kids in Huron County have the support of The Salvation Army this fall, as students return to class with backpacks filled with essential school supplies.
Across the region, the lives of 400 elementary and secondary school students will be touched when they receive backpacks from The Salvation Army Suncoast Citadel in Goderich. This community effort ensures that students have the necessary tools for their education and boosts their confidence and ability to participate fully in their studies.
The Seaforth and District Food Bank and Food Bank Zurich have collected donations for the back-to-school program and will distribute the backpacks in those communities, highlighting the collaborative spirit of coming together for this cause.
Goderich Community and Family Services Supervisor Kendall Strome says The Salvation Army Suncoast Citadel handles backpack registration, while mission partner volunteers pack the bags with binders, paper, scissors, pens and pencils in time for the new school year.
“Having the supplies makes a huge difference for student confidence and ability to keep up with their peers,” Kendall says.
The distribution of backpacks and supplies to towns like Goderich, Clinton, Zurich, Wingham, Seaforth and Exeter shows the extent of this program, which has expanded in Huron County.
Kendall says there is still a need for more expensive items such as locks, scientific calculators, and math kits. Individuals and the community can help out by donating these items or making financial contributions to help students in need at https://salvationarmy.ca/donations, and selecting Goderich.
This Salvation Army Suncoast Citadel program demonstrates the positive impact that community support can have on students’ education and well-being and we thank our mission partners for their contribution.
