Founded in 1971, The Salvation Army Sunshine Club in Ottawa was created for those over the age of 50 to come together for fellowship, food, spiritual wellness and fun! The group of about 50 seniors gather every 2 weeks for various activities, including crafts, games, music and conversation. Special guests are invited to share information on business, careers, health and safety, art, music and so much more.

“Our seniors are valuable and an important part of our community and our church. They are a real blessing to me,” said Sharon Dean, Sunshine Club Administrator.

The group take a few daytrips a year to local communities to shop, have a meal and enjoy the outdoors. The group also fundraises to support two children in The Salvation Army Brighter Futures program.

Eleanor has been a part of the club for 10 years. “They are a friendly and active group. We all worship the same God and Jesus and I feel at home with them.”

Marlene has been part of the club for nearly 15 years. “I enjoy coming to the Sunshine Club for the fellowship. It gets me out of the house and the meet ups are really the only time I go out. This summer we have a trip to Merrickville coming up and I’m looking forward to that.”
