Thanks to the generosity of donors in the Ottawa Region, tens of thousands of toys were collected for children in Ottawa during the 2022 CTV Toy Mountain campaign.

Gifts were collected at Toy Mountain locations across the city in November and December to bring the magic of the season to children this Christmas. The Salvation Army Ottawa Booth Centre distributes toys throughout the city to ensure every child has a gift to unwrap at Christmas.

“CTV Toy Mountain is about bringing a smile to a child’s face on Christmas morning, bringing hope and joy and taking the weight off parent’s shoulders at Christmas time,” said Captain Laura Van-Schaick, Corps Officer at The Salvation Army Ottawa Barrhaven Church.

In Ottawa, the demand for toys increased by 20 per cent in 2022, due to rising inflation rates and ongoing impacts from COVID-19. Over 27,500 children and 10,000 families were assisted in Ottawa during the CTV Toy Mountain campaign.

The Toy Mountain campaign is more than just a toy. Providing a gift to a child is an opportunity for The Salvation Army to develop an ongoing relationship that can lead to additional supports for children, individuals or families. Often there is more that can be done to bring hope and security to a family in need.

“We can discover what else they might need for example support with groceries, warm winter clothing and help with heat and electric bills,” said Marc Provost, Executive Director of the Ottawa Booth Centre. “Some families might need help finding affordable housing or need assistance sending their children to summer camp.”

Thank you to all Salvation Army mission partners, donors, sponsors, participating malls, businesses and individuals who helped to make the CTV Toy Mountain campaign a huge success in 2022.
