National Advisory Board Visits Newfoundland and Labrador

The Salvation Army’s National Advisory Board (NAB) gathered in St. John’s, N.L., June 4-6, 2025, for a meaningful time of connection, learning and local engagement. The visit began with presentations from the Atlantic divisional leadership team, which offered insight into the unique needs and opportunities across the region. This was followed by a tour of the Ches Penney Centre of Hope.

A highlight of the visit was a reception hosted at The Rooms, a cultural facility that operates as the provincial archives, an art gallery and a museum, with members of the St. John’s Advisory Board in attendance. His Worship Danny Breen, Mayor of St. John’s, delivered an address emphasizing the power of collaboration in dealing with community challenges. Guests were also treated to a lighthearted honorary Newfoundlander induction ceremony, known as a “screech in,” an expression of the province’s warmth and hospitality.

The rest of the itinerary included scenic visits to Petty Harbour, Cape Spear and Signal Hill, where board members experienced the beauty, charm and culinary delights of the East Coast. The visit concluded with a formal NAB meeting, rounding out a full and inspiring few days in the province.
