Helping Dev Reach His Dream
A boys’ home is giving hope to communities in rural India.
At 14, growing up in a remote, rural village in India, Dev* had little hope for a better future. His family had no home and were forced to sleep on a roadway. Like most children in the region, he rarely attended school—the nearest schools were 25-30 km away. Transportation was far too expensive to get there. Without help, his only option would be child labour.
Thanks to the support of generous donors, Dev got the help he needed at a Salvation Army boys’ home. This home provides 63 children with education, shelter, nutritious food and a safe living environment for boys like Dev who come from several economically challenged rural villages.
As the boys complete their studies, they gain the skills and confidence to build a better future for themselves and their families, enabling them to live with dignity. They also learn strong moral values and better social awareness, equipping them to be responsible citizens and important role models, inspiring other children to pursue their education and build up their communities.
“Thank you for giving me hope for a better future.”
Today, because of the compassion of people like you, Dev’s goal is to become a software engineer to support his family.
“I have a bed to sleep in and the chance to learn every day,” Dev says. “I’m grateful for this opportunity to reach for my dream.”
