Fleet

The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) fleet is a diverse and strategically distributed network of vehicles and assets designed to respond rapidly and independently to emergencies across Canada. The fleet includes a wide range of units—from agile Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter canteen trucks to full-sized Ford F-59 mobile kitchens, Freightliner MT55 units, and specialized trailers such as bunkhouses, shower units, and freezer trailers. This variety ensures that EDS can meet the needs of any disaster scenario, whether it involves mass feeding, shelter, or logistical support.

Assets are well-positioned across our four divisions: British Columbia, Prairies & Northern Territories, Ontario, and Atlantic Canada. Each division maintains a balanced mix of canteen trucks, support vehicles, and trailers, with multiple ministry units hosting key resources. For example, Edmonton is home to several kitchen and freezer trailers, while Ontario and Atlantic Canada maintain a strong presence of mobile kitchens and support trucks.

Self-sufficiency is a hallmark of the EDS approach. Many vehicles are equipped with onboard power or are supported by portable generators ranging from 2,500W to 10,000W, allowing operations to continue even in areas without infrastructure. Freezer trailers and mobile kitchens enable on-site food storage and preparation, while shower and bunkhouse trailers provide essential services for both responders and affected communities. This decentralized yet coordinated model ensures that the Salvation Army can respond quickly, effectively, and independently—often being among the first to arrive and the last to leave.
