A Safe Place, a Second Chance: Your Matched Gift Changes Lives
Watch the video below to learn more about Kate Booth House and Esther’s Place.
In Canada, one in three women will experience sexual or physical violence, and every six days a woman is killed by their intimate partner. These realities are heartbreaking and they demand action. You can help today, and your generosity will go twice as far. All donations made online at salvationarmy.ca/KateBooth by March 20, 2026, will be matched by an anonymous donor, up to $30,000.
For more than 40 years, Kate Booth House and Esther’s Place has provided safety, stability and a path forward for women and children fleeing violence and abuse. Kate Booth House is a short-term confidentially located transition house providing safe shelter, residential services and a 24-hour crisis line, to give support and advocacy to help women and children regain their self-esteem and rebuild their lives.
Esther’s Place is a second stage program for women and children who require safe housing following their stay. Along with secure shelter, individuals receive trauma-informed care, legal and housing support, and compassionate guidance to help them move from crisis to independence.
Gabriela, a former Kate Booth House resident, reflects on her journey from the fear of losing her daughter to finding a path of freedom from violence and a future together.
“If we had not gotten into Kate Booth House, then my daughter and I would have been separated.” – Gabriela, Former Kate Booth House Resident
She shares that the support and services she received were truly transformative. From a caseworker who helped her apply for income assistance and housing referrals, to fresh meals prepared by a cook, and access to clothing, each support played a role in shaping her new future. Last year, more than half of the 75 women and children who accessed Kate Booth House were helped to find stable housing, and others were able to find different types of housing suitable for their next steps.
“Kate Booth House provides women and their children a safe shelter to escape violent situations. Together we can help women and children rebuild their lives.” – Kim Findlay, Divisional Director of Development and Public Relations
The need is urgent and the opportunity is now. Your donation helps provide safety, support, and a path forward for women and children fleeing violence.
