Summer is here and camps are ready. It’s been a busy week at Camp Mountainview and Camp Sunrise. With team training complete, facilities renovated, and all the programming in place for a summer of adventure, learning, and fun, we’re now welcoming campers.

Camp Sunrise: A Buzz of Activity

At Camp Sunrise in Gibsons, BC, registration is now closed or full for most camps. Only a few spots remain for our Performing Arts Camp. If you still need to register, now is the time to take advantage of the last few spots!

Camp Mountainview: Spots Still Available

Located in Northern British Columbia in Houston, Camp Mountainview is a place of refuge, fun, and growth for campers of all ages. Camp Mountainview still has spots available for most weeks of camp. Interested families are encouraged to contact their local Salvation Army ministry unit for more details or contact us at BCYD@salvationarmy.ca

Ongoing and Completed Projects

With changes and improvements to the structure, camps are undergoing several projects to enhance the camper experience.

Camp Sunrise:

– Newly updated camper cabins (Variety and Maple)

– New floating pier for waterfront activities

– New waterfront barn

– Repainted lines on the basketball court

– New activity space

– Updated Collier cabin to serve as first aid station

Camp Mountainview:

– Updated block bathrooms

– New decks around staff quarters

– Construction of new program/fitness space

Both camps have a full complement of staff with a rich diversity of backgrounds and experiences, a mix of new and returning staff, all eager and excited for the upcoming summer.

Leader in Training (LIT) Program

In addition to the changes in structure, the camps will have a Leader in Training (LIT) program.

Leaders in Training (LIT) is a leadership development program hosted by the BC Youth Department at both Camp Sunrise and Camp Mountainview. This program is for ages 14+ and focuses on areas of personal, spiritual, and leadership development for teenagers. Some of the leaders from Sunrise will be traveling to Mountainview, providing an excellent opportunity for staff and volunteers to connect and grow together.

Joyce Downer, Divisional Children & Youth Secretary for BC says, “We are committed to providing an unforgettable summer filled with fun, friendship and personal growth for all our campers.”
