People who are lost find the hope of new beginnings thanks to generous friends like you!

One of seven children, David and his siblings had to fend for themselves when their parents left their town in western Kenya to find work in the city. Then their father sold the house, leaving them with nowhere to live. The siblings tried living with their grandmother, but it wasn’t safe.

At 16, David decided it would be better to live on the streets. It was incredibly hard experiencing homelessness, especially the feeling of worthlessness he got from those passing by. From there, it only got worse—one day, David was abducted and taken to an unfamiliar area. Thankfully, people heard David’s shouts for help and were able to rescue him.

Feeling more vulnerable than ever, David came to The Salvation Army for help. Compassionate friends like you made sure he was welcomed into our street outreach program where he was fed, given first aid and a chance for a fresh start.

Motivated by watching street vendors, David decided he wanted to start a business. He worked for someone else first and saved up until he could start his own business. Thanks to his hard work and perseverance, he now has a regular income, which allows him to afford his own place, help pay school fees for two of his younger brothers and save for the future.

“I am so grateful for The Salvation Army’s outreach program. I don’t know where I’d be without your support,” says David. Your generosity brings hope and life-changing help to people facing hardship around the world.
