Kettle Campaign Funds Vital Outreach Program

Today, The Salvation Army is proud to announce that we have exceeded our annual Christmas Kettle Campaign goal of $1.8M, enabling us to help the growing number of people in need across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
“This Christmas was challenging for everyone, but knowing folks across the Maritimes still found a way to donate to The Salvation Army both in-person and online is incredibly heartwarming,” explains Major Jamie Locke, divisional secretary for public relations and development.
The proceeds from this campaign allow The Salvation Army to run vital programs and services, such as the Jack Frost Outreach Program, which provides hot drinks and a warm meal to people experiencing homelessness in Halifax during the winter months.
“We know there are many, many people experiencing homelessness in this city, so we operate this program in addition to our shelter and community meal programs as another way to help those who are struggling.”
The outreach program operates each Wednesday evening during the winter at the corner of Spring Garden Rd. and Grafton St. from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Volunteers distribute food and drinks using The Salvation Army emergency disaster services vehicle, ensuring all public health and safety standards are in place.
“It may seem small to people who don’t experience food insecurity on a daily basis, but for those who do, it may be the only meal they have that day and that in itself is life-changing” he explains. “Everyone who donated to our kettle campaign is why these programs are possible. Whether you donated one dollar or $100, you are helping The Salvation Army make a difference in the lives of Maritimers in need throughout the year.”
