In the heart of The Salvation Army Connection Point Church & Resource Centre, a ray of hope shines brightly through the compassionate efforts of Li Wang, affectionately known as Heather. Heather’s dedication to serving the community with warmth and unity embodies the values of The Salvation Army.

“It’s about connecting with people, showing empathy, and making a difference in their lives.”

Heather’s journey began last October when she stumbled upon our center and felt an immediate connection to the welcoming atmosphere. Despite her initial lack of experience, Pastor David welcomed her with open arms, recognizing her potential to make a meaningful impact. Heather’s readiness to learn and adapt shines through her role as she prepares food, coffee, and snacks for mothers and children at the Play Café and guests during Drop-In while also offering care and support to those in need.

Reflecting on her volunteering experience, Heather shares, “I’ve learned more than just practical skills like operating a coffee machine or preparing sandwiches. It’s about connecting with people, showing empathy, and making a difference in their lives.” Her genuine care and compassion have made her an invaluable asset to the community, creating a welcoming space where everyone feels valued and supported.

Heather’s impact goes beyond her daily tasks; she extends a helping hand to those in need, guiding them to The Salvation Army for assistance. Her commitment to sharing resources and providing emotional support showcases her belief in the power of unity and hope in creating a better tomorrow for all.

Danielle Gaudet, Volunteer Coordinator, describes Heather as a fantastic, friendly, and genuine individual who embodies the spirit of volunteering. Danielle notes, “Heather’s dedication and compassion make her an invaluable part of our team. Her willingness to learn and adapt has been truly inspiring to all of us.”

Heather’s journey from China to Canada in search of freedom and a fresh start with her son has been a transformative experience. Finding solace within the welcoming community at The Salvation Army, she has not only found friendship but also a sense of purpose in helping others. Her story serves as a reminder of the transformative power of community, unity, and compassion.

Heather’s unwavering commitment to spreading hope and creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all who seek assistance exemplifies the values we hold dear at The Salvation Army. Her journey stands as a testament to the positive impact that each volunteer can make in the lives of others.
