Giving The Gift Of Time
“Being a volunteer makes me feel like I can contribute to the community and help people,” says Brenda. “There is always somebody out there that needs help.”
Brenda started her volunteer journey with The Salvation Army six years ago and has become a regular. You will often find her volunteering at the Centre of Hope in Calgary, or helping kids create crafts at Messy Church. Brenda also rings the bells on a Kettle during the Christmas season. But as an avid sports fan, Brenda’s favorite event is the Calgary Stampeders Coat Drive where distribution day not only means giving warm coats to those in need, but also provides the opportunity to meet some of the Stampeder players.
“I started volunteering because I thought that it would help make me happier in life. I continue because I love putting smiles on people’s faces,” says Brenda.
“We could not provide the services and support that we do without the thousands of volunteers who help us throughout the year,” states Karen Livick, Executive Director of Community Services Calgary. “We are grateful for every volunteer who gives an hour, a day, or an ongoing commitment of their time.”
Brenda urges people to try volunteering, it is a great way to help other people and feel great doing it. If you are interested in volunteering, visit www.SalvationArmy.ca/volunteer today.
